Complex text structures, in particular structures in which events are revealed out of chronological order, can confuse a reader, weakening comprehension. Students will use this worksheet to put events presented by Nick in The Great Gatsby in chronological order to better understand the novel and to draw conclusions about how the structure affects the reader. Hand out the worksheet after students have finished the novel. As a class, discuss how learning of the events as Nick learns of them has a different effect than if the events had been revealed in chronological order.
