Examining the setting helps students deepen their understanding of a text. Students will use this worksheet to explore how an event’s setting can be as significant as the event itself. Hand out the worksheet before students begin reading the novel. Have students fill out the graphic organizer as they read, naming major events that happen in each place. When students finish reading, have them complete the second half of the worksheet, explaining why each specific setting was important to the related event.
